Our mission

As an extension of the California Teachers Association, the TCOETA exists to protect and promote the well-being of its members; to improve the conditions of teaching and learning; to advance the cause of free, universal, and quality public education for all students; to ensure that the human dignity and civil rights of all children and youth are protected; and to secure a more just, equitable, and democratic society.

MEET THE TEAM

Josh Curtiss

President

Josh is a teacher at UPHS and is in his 23nd year of teaching. He has a passion about education and making sure teachers have what they need to do their jobs with dignity.

Shannon Akers-Cox

Vice-President

Shannon is a teacher with the Bright Start infant program. In her 20thyear of teaching, she loves working with infants and toddlers and helping their parents develop strategies to facilitate their development. Shannon has been involved with TCOETA 10 years and is committed to advocating for all teachers.

Jodi Fortney

Secretary

Jodi has been teaching special education for TCOE since 1987. She has been involved with TCOETA for many years as a member and is now serving as secretary. She hopes to keep teachers connected with TCOETA and to help provide them with support they may need to effectively do their jobs.

Susan Wendt

Treasurer

Susan has dedictated almost 30 years to education, including 27 years in special education. She has been the treasurer on the executive board for 12 years. She appreciates the opportunity to support teachers in her role as treasurer.
